EFD Induction Weldac tube welder

EFD Induction Weldac chosen for 16 inch mill

For SSAB Europe, the key factors for choosing an EFD Induction tube welder were smaller footprint, new advanced technology with a five-year guarantee on inverter modules and a high-power factor at any welder power level.

EFD Induction has sold a new 1200kW Weldac to SSAB Europe–a leading producer of high-quality steel strip, plate and tube products.

“We selected EFD Induction based on the significant key benefits their technology offers, as well as their substantial references in higher power welders. The increase in output power to 1200kW also gives us flexibility in the future for higher production speeds and heavier wall thicknesses. ” says Kari Salin, Plant Manager at SSAB Pulkkila.

Before purchasing their new Weldac for their Pulkkila plant, SSAB also visited another well-known steel pipe producer who is using an EFD Induction 1500kW Weldac and received a very good reference.

SSAB is a leading producer on the global market for Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS) and Quenched & Tempered Steels (Q&T), strip, plate and tubular products, as well as construction solutions. SSAB’s steels and services help to make end products lighter and increase their strength and lifespan.

The Weldac will be delivered in June for summer installation at SSAB’s 16” structural/API pipe mill. It will replace an older 1000kW solid-state welder. The Weldac will produce round pipes and equivalent hollow sections from 114,3mm to 406mm diameter and wall thickness range from 2,9mm to 12,5mm.

To date, EFD Induction has supplied more than 50 high-frequency induction welders with an output power of 1000kW or higher to customers around the globe.
