EFD Induction boosts welding frequency up to 500 kHz with IGBT transistors
Nearly 10 years of successful use of the patented switching technology has proven the reliability of EFD Induction’s Weldac IGBT welder. Refinement of existing technology has improved and extended the use of readily available, reliable and standard IGBT transistors up to 500 kHz.
New additions to the Weldac range
EFD Induction is introducing a new range of smaller, lower powered Weldac solid-state welders. The new line-up features Weldacs in the 50-225 kW power range at frequencies of 150-400 kHz.
Weldac impresses at Chinese event

Maximized uptime and throughput from the EFD Induction Weldac
EFD Induction’s ‘Weldac’ induction welders have revolutionized uptime and productivity levels in the tube and pipe industry. Thanks in part to its patented switching technology, the Weldac is able to use reliable, standard IGBT transistors—even at the higher frequencies (now up to 500 kHz) needed for smaller dimensioned tube welding. The innovation means tube and pipe manufacturers can now get all the familiar advantages of MOSFET welders (high power efficiency, low operating costs) together with the unrivalled reliability and uptime of IGBT transistors. Indeed, the Weldac is so reliable that EFD Induction warrants the system’s IGBT inverter modules and driver cards for a total of five years of operation.
Baoshan installs IGBT-based Weldac and two seam annealing machines
Shanghai-based Baoshan Iron & Steel Company Ltd. is China’s largest iron and steel manufacturer. The recent installation of an IGBT-based Weldac and two seam annealing machines enables them to produce a complete range of tubes. EFD Induction has again proven its market leadership in high-powered solid-state welding equipment.
EFD Induction Weldacs supplied to Tubecon
As part of a multi-million dollar expansion program, Tubecon of South Africa has purchased a couple of EFD Induction Weldac high-frequency welders. The expansion program will reinforce Tubecon’s market position as one of the fastest and most reliable suppliers of hot and cold rolled steel tubing in Southern Africa.
