EFD Induction is present in a series of industries for preheating—primarily the automotive, cable and wire, electrotechnical, and tube and pipe industries. In many cases, our preheating solutions are integrated into production lines.

 

Using induction rather than gas or a furnace for preheating has several advantages. Heat transfer is direct—minimizing heat loss and energy consumption while increasing the production rate and improving quality.

 

The heat can also be controlled precisely. This makes it possible to reduce the temperature when welding and then achieve a lower cooling rate. Less risk of cold cracking and excessive hardening are some of the benefits.

 

And you can forget heat-spreading flames. You get a better working environment, less need for cooling and a lower fire risk.

HeatLine is EFD Induction’s family of systems for melting and forging applications. A comprehensive range, HeatLine systems feature serial and/or parallel compensated induction power sources for a wide range of output powers and frequencies.

 

HeatLine’s serial technology is built around robust, high-uptime IGBT transistors. Our parallel technology features thyristor, IGBT and MOSFET components. Each HeatLine converter offers automatic load matching, a single microprocessor-based control board and integrated capacitors.

 

In addition to systems for melting and forging, HeatLine offers solutions for graphite coating, wire and strip heating, spring wire rolling, glass melting, graphite susceptor heating, galvanizing, food and chemical vessel heating, and other special applications.

Correct coil design is essential to cost-effective induction heating. This service ensures you get design customized to your heating applications and materials. Which, in turn, means that you get the right heating patterns and your induction heating power supply delivers maximum output. You can use the service when introduction induction heating for the first time, or when upgrading existing coils.

Each EFD Induction coil is documented in a database containing all essential information. This makes it quick and easy for us to repair and replace your coils with constant quality. Induction preheating in the automotive industry

Induction preheating is ideal for reducing the risk of cracking and hardening structures. The reason is that induction generates heat in the material itself, which means that the surrounding temperature is lower than the one generated in the material. This heat is also more accurately controlled than a gas flame. This makes it possible to reduce the temperature difference in the welding zone and achieve a lower cooling rate—particularly important with laser beam welding, where the heat is focused on one single welding point.

 

What’s more, preheating and welding can occur simultaneously with induction-assisted laser beam welding. You can speed up production without jeopardizing the quality.

 

Another area of preheating where EFD Induction operates is the shrink fitting of gear wheels. Here again the advantages of induction heating are clear—fast, accurate and controllable heat. The induction equipment is also easy to fit into your existing production line.

Induction preheating the cable and wire industry

EFD Induction supplies numerous preheating solutions for the cable and wire industry. Heating before the extruder is the most common induction application in a cable production line. Using the preheater will decrease the cross-linking time and enable a faster line speed.

 

Preheating with induction instead of with a conventional method directly transfers the heat to the wire or the cable core. The material is heated to the right temperature in a very short time (exactly how short depends on the line speed and the coil length).  

 

Induction also means that the actual hardening process begins at the core. The result is better insulation with lower porosity.

Induction preheating in the electrotechnical industry

EFD Induction offers induction equipment, which performs a variety of preheating tasks within the electrotechnical industry. Some examples are induction preheating of axles and frames before welding, and heat softening of bars before bending. 

 

The purpose of preheating is to reduce the risk of cracking and hardening structures. Induction allows accurate heat control—time and time again. You get exactly the result you require. What’s more, the heat is generated directly in the material, which allows you to speed up the preheating process.

Induction preheating in the tube and pipe industry

Induction produces quick, accurate, controllable and repeatable heat. This makes it an excellent method for preheating tubes and pipes to prevent cracking, reduce hardening structures and increase welding speed.

 

EFD Induction offers a series of solutions for induction preheating within tube and pipe. Some examples are heating prior to welding, tin remelting, galvanizing, pipe forming and bending, and application of plastic powder or paint to tube.

 

You can also use induction preheating  to get better adhesion of insulation round heating pipes (compare with the process of adhering insulation round cables and wires).
