Postheating with induction

Postheating with induction

Postheating is a major area for EFD Induction, and we have designed and installed numerous solutions around the world. Many of our postheating solutions are concentrated to the automotive, aviation, cable and wire, electrotechnical, and tube and pipe industries.

Induction is an excellent way of postheating. The heat is generated directly in the material and is very accurate—time and time again. This reduces radiation loss and shortens heating times compared with gas or furnace.   Even more important is the higher quality and throughput achieved in the end. You get, for example, a faster and improved cross linking process of cable insulation.

Induction coils

Having the right coil—and keeping it in the best possible condition—is critical to the efficiency of your induction solution. After all, the coil is the component that actually delivers the heat to the workpiece.

Our induction coil services cover all your coil needs: from coil design through to coil manufacture, installation, maintenance, repair and replacement.

Coil design

Correct coil design is essential to cost-effective induction heating. This service ensures you get design customized to your heating applications and materials. Which, in turn, means that you get the right heating patterns and your induction heating power supply delivers maximum output. You can use the service when introduction induction heating for the first time, or when upgrading existing coils.

Coil database

Each EFD Induction coil is documented in a database containing all essential information. This makes it quick and easy for us to repair and replace your coils with constant quality. You can use the service when introducing induction heating for the first time, or when upgrading existing coils.

Induction postheating in the automotive industry

The automotive industry has traditionally been at the forefront of efforts to slash costs while simultaneously raising quality levels. Little wonder then that automakers and their suppliers have been aggressive adopters of induction technology.

At EFD Induction we have over the years developed and installed numerous postheating solutions for the car industry. Some examples are postheating of crankshafts, camshafts, CV joints, starter rings and camshaft gears. We also work with induction postheating for the polymerization of brake discs (GEOMET® and DACROMET® processes).

Induction postheating in the aviation industry

Induction postheating is particularly suitable for reducing stresses caused by welding repairs in. for instance, for jet engine casings. This is not only because induction heating is accurate, repeatable and contact-free heat, but also because it meets all the rules for heat treatment in the aviation industry.

EFD Induction offers mobile, compact induction heating equipment. Welding joints can therefore be postheated on planes anywhere in the world—just take the equipment with you.

Induction postheating in the cable and wire industry

EFD Induction has for years worked closely with the cable and wire industry on developing induction solutions.

Using postheating for cables speeds up the process of vulcanization of the insulation layer. In addition, induction heating is accurate and controllable, and the output power is in most cases controlled via the line speed.

Induction postheating is also used for wires, tubes and strands, for shaping objects or faster drying of paint.

Induction postheating in the electrotechnical industry

Our compact and mobile induction equipment performs a variety of induction postheating tasks within the electrotechnical industry:

  • Softening of copper and aluminum bars after bending to reduce the risk of cracking
  • Post-extrusion heating of cable cores
  • Removing of shrink-fitted parts (out-mobile Minac equipment can perform this task, even in locations such as oil rigs, power stations, wind farms, etc.)

Induction postheating in the tube and pipe industry

Induction postheating is used in the tube and pipe industry  to eliminate hardening structures, which may have arisen after welding. New steel quality guidelines, in particular APT, often demand reheating after welding.

Thanks to the accuracy and controllability of heat induction, it is possible to increase precision in postheating. This, in turn, produces pipes that are more durable, more resistant to cracks and less susceptible to corrosion.
